Wheelchair squads head to York this weekend!
12/09/2024
Sheffield Eagles Wheelchair Rugby League team travel to York Knights for their final Championship East game of the regular season in search of an eight consecutive league win.
Victory will see them crowned as league leaders, although only a loss by greater than a 97 point margin will see the title go to York. It is an incredible turnaround for the team, who did not win a single match during 2022.
Greg Brown has a full complement of his first-grade players available for the game, which kicks off at 2pm at York University.
Stuart Wilkinson is added to the squad, which otherwise is unchanged from last weekend’s defeat of Bradford, which qualifies him for the end of season play-offs to add additional cover to the squad.
Securing the league leaders title also secures a home play-off which will see the side in action in Sheffield on Saturday 28th September as the bid to make their first Championship Grand Final as the top teams from the Championship West and Championship South come together to vie for the right to be crowned national champions.
Additionally, both sides will also meet with their A teams for a further friendly at 12.15pm. The Eagles will likely hand a Gold team debut to Matt Davis, a recent recruit, and Ben Wilson returns after missing the class with Bradford. Julie Fimusanmi and Barry Grayson are unavailable for the fixture.
