Welham aims for return to action this weekend against Bradford

Centre Kris Welham hopes that being back at home this weekend can help fire the Eagles back to winning ways in the Betfred Championship.
The 37-year-old missed the Eagles’ trip to the south of France last weekend through injury, but he’s hoping to be back involved this Sunday as the Eagles play at home for the first time in three weeks.
“The result wasn’t the one that we wanted”, said Welham, when asked to reflect on last weekend’s defeat to Toulouse.
“It’s four games now we haven’t got a win, it’s very unlike us and we haven’t really gone on a losing streak like that. It has been something hard to take, but it hasn’t been through a lack of trying and effort. The boys have had a dig in these games, but we just couldn’t get the win.
“We feel a victory is only around the corner, and we all know that one win can get your confidence back up and get your season back on track. We just need to stick with it, keep performing how we want to play and play to the game plan set out, then hopefully we can get something this weekend against Bradford.”
Welham spent the 2016 campaign with the Bulls, where he ended that season with 29 tries in 30 appearances, but the centre is looking forward to going up against his former side this weekend as we look for a crucial win to get back to winning ways in the league.
“I only spent one season with Bradford, and it was an enjoyable one. It was my first experience of playing in the Championship. The club still was full time at that point, but it was just unfortunate at what happened at the end of that season where they went into liquidation.
“I loved my time with the Bulls. It was a great club with some brilliant facilities, and I haven’t got a bad word to say about them.
“It’s been a few years now since my time with Bradford, it was a place where I really enjoyed my time there, but Sheffield is my club now, and we’ve got a job to do and that is to go out there on Sunday and beat them.
“We know that they are above us in the league table, so it would be nice to go out there and claw some points back on them.”
Welham has made 26 appearances so far for the Eagles this season, but after missing last weekend’s trip to Toulouse, he’s hoping he can be back involved this Sunday at Olympic Legacy Park.
“I missed the game last week with a bit of a freaky situation, I woke up one morning with a bit of an elbow issue and it made me ill. It was a bit tough for me last week, but I’m hoping to be back in contention this weekend. I don’t normally miss games; I don’t like to miss games either.
“We know we need to put in a big performance this weekend, and hopefully I will be able to help play a part in that and contribute in any way that I can.
“We know that our form over the last month hasn’t been great, but everyone is desperate to put that right.
“We hope that being back at home this weekend having been on the road for the last couple of weeks will give us that added extra motivation to go out there and get the two points for the fans.”
