Sid and Gareth Ramsey Named in Wales World Cup Squad

Sheffield Eagles Wheelchair duo Sid and Gareth Ramsey are heading to Australia after being named in Wales’ 12-player squad for the 2026 Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup.

The selection makes history, with two father-and-son pairings set to represent Wales at a Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup for the first time, with the Ramseys joining Martin and Matthew Turner in the historic squad. A father and son have previously featured in the Wales set-up, but never before together at a World Cup.

Sid has already earned senior international caps for Wales after representing Cymru at this year’s Celtic Cup and could now add a World Cup appearance to his international record.

He has enjoyed an excellent 2026 season with the Eagles, becoming a regular once again in our Super League side. His performances saw him named as a nominee for the Shooting Star Award at our End of Season Presentation Evening.

Gareth, who has previously represented the Wales ‘A’ team, is one of three potential debutants named by Head Coach Alan Caron ahead of the tournament.

He has also enjoyed an impressive campaign with the Eagles, playing a key role for our Wheelchair Reserves side, which saw him named as a nominee in the Wheelchair Player of the Year category.

Their selection follows yesterday’s announcement that Chris Haynes and Luis Domingos have been called up to the England squad for the World Cup.

That means four Sheffield Eagles Wheelchair players will now represent their countries at the 2026 Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup in Australia, a fantastic achievement for the players and a huge source of pride for everyone connected with the club.
