Sheffield Eagles to feature in Weston Park Museum
28/04/2023
Next Tuesday, 2nd May, will be a big day for Sheffield Eagles for a number of reasons.
At the start of the day, Weston Park Museum - in association with the club’s Heritage Project - will reveal a display showcasing the very best of Sheffield Eagles from over the years.
Of course, those years include 1998 when Sheffield rugby league was put on to the national map with a remarkable Challenge Cup win over the giant Wigan Warriors.
For any media wishing to attend, there will be a number of people of interest available to interview at the Museum from 11am. These include;
• Mark Aston – winner of the Lance Todd Trophy (1998 Challenge Cup Man of the Match) and current Director of Rugby at the Sheffield Eagles
• Richard King – Heritage Officer, Sheffield Eagles Heritage Project
• Kath and John Owen - Long standing Sheffield Eagles fans. Kath led fans up Wembley Way in 1998 with her drum.
• Roger, Richard and Jake Borrill – Grandfather, son and grandson. Roger and Richard were at the first ever Sheffield Eagles game in 1984 and continue to support the Club today. There are now three generations of Borill’s supporting the Club, Richard’ s Jake is now also part of the Club’s media team, taking matchday photographs.
Later on in the day, the Eagles will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of that historic victory over Wigan.
Many members of the club from 1998, both on and off the field, will be at OEC Sheffield and there will be updates of the event on the Eagles’ social media channels.
It’s all set for an amazing day in the Steel City! Why not come down and join us as we celebrate and re-live Sheffield’s remarkable achievement at the Twin Towers back in 1998?
