Rob Womack To Stand Down As Eagles Foundation Trustee

16/06/2026

After 13 years of service, Rob Womack has announced that he will stand down as a trustee of the Eagles Foundation.

Rob joined the board of trustees in 2013 and has helped to steer the Foundation’s strategic direction and early in his tenure was responsible for securing several grants to support the Foundation’s work.

“A lot has changed in my life, and as I continue to adapt to these changes I feel I can no longer give the required time to the Eagles Foundation going forward”, Rob explained.

“I’ve been involved in the Foundation for a long time and I will look back fondly on the role I have played in the Eagles Foundation which has made, and continues to make, such a huge difference to so many people’s lives. The Eagles Foundation is in an amazing place in terms of its charitable activity and its financial status and I know the trustees are doing an awful lot of work to make this happen - with a strong staffing team delivering the work to make real impact.”

“The diversity of people the Eagles Foundation engages with and the meaningful impact it has on their lives is a minor miracle and I am very proud of my contribution to this.”

Remaining trustees David Butler, Adam Hughes and Michael Hackett will shortly review plans to recruit to the board of trustees to replace Rob and to explore other skillsets which can be brought on board to benefit the continued growth and reach of the organisation.

“On behalf of the board of trustees and staff past and present at the Eagles Foundation, I’d like to put on record our sincere thanks to Rob Womack for his contribution as a trustee since 2013”, added David Butler, chair of the trustees.

“Whilst separately governed and independent organisations, the Foundation’s close working relationship with the Sheffield Eagles club has meant that the Foundation has also been through some challenging times during Rob’s tenure, such as the period playing away from South Yorkshire and the financial difficulties at the end of the last decade. Rob has been part of a steady group of hands on the tiller through those stormy times and has been equally supportive during the resurgence of the Foundation as we have moved to capitalise on the legacy of Rugby League World Cup 2021.”

“I am sure that Rob will not be a stranger and we look forward to keeping in touch with him and hopefully our paths will cross again in the future.”

The Eagles Foundation, originally known as the Sheffield Regional Rugby League Development Partnership Trust and also at one time as the Include Foundation, is a registered charity in England & Wales and was the first charitable body to be established by a rugby club of either code with the purpose of developing and growing the game.
