Ramsey duo named in Wales World Cup training squad

Sheffield Eagles are delighted to see Sid Ramsey and Gareth Ramsey included in Wales Wheelchair Rugby League head coach Alan Caron's 15-player training squad ahead of this year's World Cup in Australia.

The father-and-son duo have both been selected as Wales begin preparations for the tournament, which will take place in Australia during October and November.

For Gareth, the selection represents a first call-up to a Wales squad, while Sid continues to build on his international experience after previously representing his country earlier this year in the Celtic Cup.

The pair are one of two father-and-son combinations named in the squad, alongside Martin and Matthew Turner.

Gareth and Sid will now join up with the rest of the 15-player training squad for a training camp at the end of August, with the group set to be reduced to a final travelling squad of 12 ahead of the World Cup.

Wales head coach Alan Caron said: "Following a training camp last weekend, we've selected 15 players who will move on to the next stage before we cut down for the 12 that will go to Australia.

"These players will train in August for us to watch them again, push them to see what they can and can't do, to see if they fit into the system that we're looking to run in the World Cup."

The Eagles and Eagles Foundation would like to congratulate both Gareth and Sid on their selection and wish them every success as they compete for a place in the final Wales squad heading to Australia.
