PRE-MATCH INTERVIEW | Liam Browne
07/09/2024
It’s a double-header of Women’s Rugby League action tomorrow afternoon as both our Red and Gold sides are in action at Sheffield Hallam University Sports Park.
Liam Browne’s red side will take to the field first at 12pm as they take on Dewsbury Moor Ladies in the North Championship, before Dan Burt’s gold side then take on Orrell St James afterwards at 2pm.
We caught up with Liam Browne earlier this week to gather his thoughts ahead of tomorrow’s fixtures, and how he’s feeling ahead of the upcoming playoffs which our Women’s Red team will compete in.
Q | Liam, big game this weekend for the Women’s Red team against Dewsbury. How much you looking forward to trying to get a response following defeat last time out?
“Yeah, we're excited for this one. It’s our last regular season game, it is always a tough match up against Dewsbury, but we feel that training has been going well.
“I'm looking forward to seeing how we match up against them and hopefully we can get a win.
“It wasn’t our day in our last game against Salford Red Devils, that game has given us a lot to work on, and we’re feeling good and ready for Sunday’s game.”
Q | Playoffs and a 2nd placed finish is all confirmed, so how pleased are you with the finish this season for the Red Team?
“We’re all so pleased and we’re all so happy. It’s a massive improvement from finishing 5th last year, and with the new structure and several former Super League clubs joining us at the start of this season, it's just makes it an even bigger achievement for the club.
“But for now, one game at a time, all eyes are on Dewsbury. We can talk playoffs later.”
Q | The golds are at home again this weekend straight after the reds, so it must be nice that all the women’s team can be around and support each other?
Yes, we love a double header with both our teams stepping out on to the field after each other. It really drives that family and community culture we're trying to build here at the Eagles.”
Q | Finally Liam, just a bit on the Heritage Day, the club are celebrating as a whole this weekend. Just how great is it to be involved with something like that?
“It’s an incredible and a real honour for us to be able to play on this day and help celebrate the club’s Heritage Day.
“Our team has only been around a short time, the last 3 years, but this is such a special club to be a part of with such a rich history.”
