Betfred Championship EVOGO

PRE-MATCH INTERVIEW | Jesse Sene-Lefao | Featherstone Rovers (A)

14/09/2024

Forward Jesse Sene-Lefao knows the importance of tomorrow’s Betfred Championship fixture against Featherstone Rovers as both sides push to secure a playoff spot.

With only three weeks of the regular season to go, Sheffield and Featherstone sit level in the league table on points and points difference, with tomorrow's game presenting a really big four-pointer for both sides.

Sheffield were 18-16 winners against Featherstone in the last meeting between the two clubs back in June, but Sene-Lefao knows it’s going to be another really big test for the boys as he returns to face one of his former sides.

“I spent only one season with Featherstone, but it’s always good to play against them and I’m looking forward to it, just like I’m sure the rest of the boys are”, said Sene-Lefao.

“Going to Featherstone is always a big game, it’s a tough place to go, but we know that it all has to be about us this weekend.

“Obviously, we need to turn things around, and there’s no better game to do it in.”

Since the start of August, Featherstone’s season was turned around with a six match winning run which saw James Ford side build a bid to achieve a top six finish, but that run came to an end last weekend with a disappointing 28-8 defeat at Swinton Lions

Sene-Lefao knows it’s going to be a different game this weekend from the one where we ran out as winners back in June, but he’s hopeful that the boys can go out there and get the win in West Yorkshire.

“We know it’s going to be a really different game this weekend, we’re heading into the final few games of the season, just before the playoffs, so we know we need to hit a bit of form and go out there for them two points.

“Beating Featherstone earlier this season I think was the first time that the club had beaten them at home in like five or six years, so it was a really good feeling when we got that try late on from the kick.

“It has been a very long season; I think last weekend’s game against Bradford was our 30th game of the year, and we’ve not had a week off so far.

“The boys are really trying their best to keep in shape, stay fit, and hopefully do the best we can to help end the season as strongly as possible, starting with this weekend’s game.”

going five games without a win in the league, the Eagles are still within a chance of securing a spot in the playoffs, and Sene-Lefao says that the Eagles just need to try and find that flow state which saw them go the first eight games of the season unbeaten earlier this season.

“Any win is always a positive thing about it, but winning is a habit and we need to try and do our best to get that back in place.

“We had that habit of winning at the start of the season, we need to try and find flow state and hopefully everything can be answered by our performances for the rest of the season.”
