Match Preview | Trip to Swinton Lions awaits this weekend

08/04/2024

Sheffield Eagles will look to make it four wins from four in the Betfred Championship this coming weekend when we travel to Heywood Road on Sunday afternoon to take on Swinton Lions.

Mark Aston’s side have seen off Toulouse Olympique (24-22), Doncaster (20-26) and Whitehaven (16-42) in our opening three league games of the 2024 campaign and we’ll be hoping to carry on this run this weekend.

It’s also been nine wins from ten games in all competitions so far this season for the Eagles, so the main aim on Sunday afternoon will be aiming to extend our winning run to four games in European Rugby League’s second tier.

This weekend’s hosts Swinton Lions started their league campaign with back-to-back defeats on the road against Whitehaven and Widnes Vikings, before travelling to France last weekend and pulled off a narrow 14-20 win over last season’s beaten grand finalists, Toulouse Olympique, to get their 2024 league campaign underway.

Swinton Lions vs Sheffield Eagles takes place this Sunday, 14th April 2024. Here’s all the information you need to know ahead of our trip across to Manchester this coming weekend.

Head-to-Head

As already mentioned, this will be the second meeting between the two sides in only a matter of weeks, after the Eagles ran out as 12-14 winners four weeks ago in the Betfred Challenge Cup 5th Round.

The results have also been fairly shared between the two sides over recent years. The last league meeting between the two sides ended in a 30-22 victory for Swinton last July at Heywood Road. Earlier in the 2023 season, Sheffield Eagles ran out as 16-6 winners in April at Olympic Legacy Park.
