Match Preview | Sheffield take on Wigan Warriors in Challenge Cup last sixteen

19/03/2024

The biggest challenge of the 2024 season is to come on Friday evening for the Sheffield Eagles as we make the trip to the DW Stadium to take on current World Club Champions Wigan Warriors in the Betfred Challenge Cup 6th Round.

It will be a tough test for both sides as we both head into the game still unbeaten in 2024, with the Eagles coming into the clash on the back of an eight-match winning run in all competitions, whilst the hosts go into Friday’s fixture sat joint-top of the Betfred Super League table.

Mark Aston will be hoping he will have the likes of Matty Marsh, Ben Jones-Bishop and Joel Farrell return to the matchday squad for Friday’s encounter, after the trio have missed the last couple of games between them through injury.

Wigan have already secured four wins from four in their league campaign, having secured wins over Castleford, Salford, London Broncos and Huddersfield in the opening couple of weeks of the new season.

They also were recently crowned as the Club World Champions after they defeat Penrith Panthers 16-12 at the DW Stadium only a couple of weeks ago, as they won the competition for a fifth time in their history.

Whilst this game gives Matt Peet the chance to rest some of his squad ahead of Good Friday’s clash with St Helens, it could also give some of the club’s youngsters game time to impress for the Super League champions.

All Match tickets for Sheffield Eagles supporters are being sold through Wigan Warriors’ ticketing site.
