Match Preview | AB Sundecks Semi Final at York
08/05/2024
Sheffield Eagles travel to the LNER Community Stadium on Sunday afternoon as we set to compete with York RLFC Knights for a place in the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup Final at Wembley Stadium.
The Eagles have already taken on York once so this season in North Yorkshire, having secured a 16-32 victory in the Betfred Challenge Cup 4th Round back in February.
So far during our 1895 cup run this season, we have secured victories over Doncaster and Midlands Hurricanes in the Group Stage, before a 26-10 win against Batley Bulldogs at Olympic Legacy Park set up this weekend’s semi-final tie.
Andrew Henderson’s York head into Sunday’s contest looking to turn their fortunes around after making a disappointing start to their season.
Despite qualifying for Sunday’s semi-final, they currently sit bottom of the Betfred Championship having only secured one win in seven league games, which came as a 25-14 victory against Bradford Bulls last month.

Head-to-Head
This weekend’s game will be the second of three meetings against the Knights this season at the LNER, having already played them in the Challenge Cup in February.
Meetings between the two clubs stretch back as far as December 1986, where the Eagles ran out as 18-28 winners in North Yorkshire in the first-ever clash between the two sides.
In the last five meetings, this weekend's hosts have been victorious three times against the Eagles, with Mark Aston’s side holding two successive victories within that run.
