Getting To Know You: Keith Senior - Eagles Assistant Coach
13/04/2020
The next 'Getting To Know You' article comes from assistant coach Keith Senior. He's only won pretty much everything in Rugby League, but we didn't want to leave him out!
Role at the club and what it entails:
Assistant Coach / Delivery + Planning Of Training Sessions / Water Carrier / Tubby’s Bouncer for when he gobs off / Generally everyone chips in to anything that needs doing
When did you become involved:
Think it was around 2014-ish
How did it come about, who told you about the role:
I was in a bit of a transition after having to retire from playing due to injury. I was working at Leeds Rhinos Foundation and ended up having a conversation with Mark about a possible coaching role.
Favourite memory from the role:
From when I run the messages and dealing with all the abuse for doing what I'm allowed to do, still makes me laugh at how much knowledge is actually understood but I do have a lot of banter with most of the opposition’s crowd!
Favourite Eagles match you have been to as a coach:
1895 Cup win at Wembley is the obvious choice but also the Qualifiers victory against Wakefield, beating a Super League team in 2015.
Job outside of Rugby League:
I work for Rugby League Cares working with current and past players dealing with transition from full time rugby and also a support base for players dealing with troubling times in their lives.
If you could trust one current Eagles player to do your role, who would it be and why?
One of the older heads. Probably Matt James for his experience and calm nature when talking to players and has earned respect from career. Rob Worrincy, the same about the respect from his career and both are very vocal when it comes to team meetings and express opinions.
They also understand dealing with different characters/personalities in a team, which is probably the hardest part of coaching.
