Keith Senior departs Sheffield Eagles
02/10/2024
Sheffield Eagles are sad to announce the departure of Assistant Coach Keith Senior, who has left his coaching role with the club following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
The former centre started his playing career with the Eagles back in 1994 after being signed by Gary Hetherington, and he became a big part of the club’s early days in Super League, following it’s rebrand in 1996, and featured in the competition’s first game as the Eagles played Paris St Germain.
His rise in the Eagles team saw him earn a call-up to feature for Great Britain in 1996, and he also featured in the side that won the Challenge Cup in 1998, as we beat Wigan Warriors 17-8 under the leadership of John Kear.
After making 140 appearances for the Eagles, he moved to Leeds Rhinos in 1999, and he would go on to become a legend at the West Yorkshire club, making 365 appearances for Leeds during a twelve-year spell.
Senior was regarded as one of the best-ever players in the Super League era during his playing days, where he helped the club win four Super League titles. He was named in the Super League Dream Team for the fifth time in his career at the back end of the 2010 season, only one year ahead of him announcing his retirement from playing in 2011.
After a successful playing career, Senior returned to the Eagles ahead of the 2015 season, where he has served as Assistant Coach for the last ten years under Mark Aston.
Keith has helped create many memories with the club since his return to South Yorkshire, with two trips to Wembley in the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup being some of the highlights created over the last decade.
Keith will be missed by all at the Sheffield Eagles, and we want to wish him the best with his future endeavours.
