Jordan Bull's fundraising effort for Firefly Cancer Awareness and Support

Despite these unprecedented lockdown times, there have been some feel-good stories that have inspired the public. 

Kevin Sinfield’s seven marathons in seven days to raise awareness for motor neurone disease and Sir Captain Tom Moore’s 100-lap walk of his garden for the NHS are two that automatically spring to mind. 

Eagles forward Jordan Bull and his uncle Martin Rowlands are doing their own challenge - running 10k a day for 10 days, to raise money for Firefly Cancer Awareness and Support. 

Bull explained the idea behind the challenge, and more information on the charity, saying: “Originally it was my uncle’s idea to do the 10k for 10 days,”

“Since Kevin Sinfield and a few others have done challenges for charity, we thought it’d be good to do something like that as the charity is quite close to our family.  

“It’s also close to our area too so we wanted to push ourselves in difficult times to raise as much money and awareness as possible.  

“My uncle has always been doing charity sports events. 

“During this time, where such events can’t go ahead, we can only do so much and the only real option was to go outdoors and exercise. 

“We both thought it was a good, but challenging, idea to do the 10k for 10 days.

“The charity helps transport cancer patients to hospitals and they have worked closely with my family before. 

“As we have known people who have used the service, and my uncle is close friends with the people that run it, he has been doing fundraising for them for a few years now.”

Bull has completed seven 10k runs in as many days so far, and he is happy with the progress they have made with only a few small issues rearing their head. 

“It’s not too bad at the minute,” he added. 

“It’s mainly blisters at the moment but the legs are doing fine!

“We have found a few different routes but it’s all about trying to get our heads down and keep running to get through the challenge.”
