Greg Eden believes the Eagles are well placed to extend our impressive winning run to seven matches when we travel to face Oldham this Sunday, with a potential playoff place also on the line.

The Eagles head into one of our biggest fixtures of the season in outstanding form, having won six games in a row to propel ourselves into top six contention in the Betfred Championship.

Sunday's trip to third-placed Oldham presents another significant test, but confidence within Craig Lingard's squad is high as we look to continue our momentum heading into the closing weeks of our Championship campaign.

Since arriving at the club in June to fill the void left by Matty Marsh's injury, Greg Eden has played an important role in Sheffield's resurgence. The experienced fullback has quickly settled into life with the Eagles and believes the positive atmosphere around the club has helped fuel the team's recent success.

"I have really enjoyed my time at Sheffield so far. Being in a part-time environment has been great.

“The atmosphere has been lovely, and obviously we are winning as well, which helps the camaraderie and feel around the place. It is a good place to be at the minute.”

For Greg Eden, Eagles head coach Craig Lingard is a familiar face. The pair previously worked together at Castleford Tigers during Eden’s final season in Super League, and their reunion at the Eagles has provided a familiar foundation as he settles into his new surroundings.

Reflecting on their time together at Castleford, Eden explained how that existing relationship has helped make his transition to Sheffield a seamless one.

"Craig and I had a very short spell at Castleford; I think it was my last year there.

“He came in as an assistant coach, and he did some good stuff there. We ended up getting saved from relegation with a win against Wakefield towards the end of the year.

“But that was back in 2023, a very short spell. I am very fond of Craig and his coaching style, and he has helped me settle into the club too.”

With Sunday's clash offering the chance to make it seven consecutive victories, Eden believes the squad's confidence has continued to grow throughout our recent winning run.

“It has been very pleasing for everyone involved. From the week that I started, where we went up to Barrow and lost by two points, and since then we have hit a good run of form.

“The team is coming together well; everyone is playing for each other. We have a good balance; I just feel like everyone is working for each other.

“We have been hitting some form, and it's coming at the right time to head into the playoffs.”

The fullback also acknowledged the significance of Sheffield's current streak, particularly with a demanding run of fixtures still to come, with clashes against Hunslet, Doncaster and Widnes to come in the next few weeks.

“It’s not often that you get a six-game winning streak. I think that Barrow game, which was the first one that could have taken us to seven, it was very close.

“We had some opportunities to win that game, and they were in second place when we played them.

“I think it has come at the right time for us, this winning streak; we are going into some tough opposition now, we have Oldham, Doncaster and Widnes still to play in the next four weeks. So, this streak has us in good stead going into those games.”

Oldham have enjoyed an outstanding campaign and remain firmly established in third place despite suffering a defeat on the road last weekend at Doncaster. Sheffield understand that another victory would represent a major statement in our playoff push, and Eden believes the togetherness within the Eagles squad has been central to our turnaround this season.

“We have a good camaraderie in the team, from what I have noticed in the short period of time that I’ve been at the club.

“I think we have got some good coaching staff behind us; we go into depth about the opposition that we have played, and we put that into practise in training, both in defence and attack. We just have a great balance to how we are going into games.”

While Oldham will be determined to respond following last weekend's defeat, Sheffield travel with belief after six successive victories and know another strong performance could significantly boost their playoff hopes.

Eden is expecting a fiercely contested encounter but is confident the Eagles have every chance of returning home with another important two points.

“Obviously going head-to-head with Oldham, I think we are a team coming off of a very good streak of wins, and they have just had a big loss and will be looking to bounce back.

“I think it will be a very good game. They will be trying to make up for last weekend, and we will have to try to stop that.

“Oldham are a very good side; I think they’d won 17 games in a row before last weekend, which we have touched on in our preview earlier this week.

“Doncaster managed to beat them quite convincingly, so I think there’s no reason why we can’t manage the same too.”
