Girls Rugby League In Sheffield Is Go!
The Eagles Foundation, in partnership with Sheffield Eagles, will launch a weekly Girls Rugby League training night on Wednesdays starting from Wednesday 27th April.
The sessions will take place between 6pm and 7pm and will take place at Forge Valley School and will be led by members of the Sheffield Eagles Women’s team.
Girls at Under 11s (Year 5) and above are welcome to attend and sessions will cater for those who are beginners as well as girls who are already playing and looking to transition from mixed teams.
The move comes as the Sheffield Eagles women’s team begin their debut season in the RFL’s League One and it is planned that the sessions will create a pathway for girls playing Rugby League to ultimately progress to the women’s team, providing a full pathway for the city region’s female Rugby League players.
“There’s no better time for girls to get involved in Rugby League in the Sheffield City Region” explained Andrea Dobson, the Eagles Foundation’s Development Officer. “We want to ensure that girls playing in mixed teams currently have the opportunity to keep playing and can progress to playing for their city’s women’s club when they are older without having to miss out or play outside of the city.
“With the Women’s World Cup taking place later this year, there’s a lot of interest in the female game and we’re delighted to be capitalising on that interest here in Sheffield.”
