First-ever Female Wheelchair Rugby League contest on Sunday!
17/07/2025
Sheffield Eagles and Leeds Rhinos will play the first ever all-female club game of Wheelchair Rugby League on Sunday, when the clubs meet at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield.
Both sides make history with the fixture, which kicks off at 11.30am and demonstrates both the Eagles' and Rhinos' commitment to growing the community of Wheelchair Rugby League.
The game follows the Eagles hosting the first all-female Wheelchair Rugby League training event in Sheffield last year and contributing several players to an all-female Future of England game played as part of the England v France international fixture.
It will not be the first time that the Eagles have fielded an all-female side, having done so in several festivals and over the course of their four-year history regularly having five female players on the pitch at one time in all grades of competition.
"I'm delighted that yet again Sheffield Eagles will be breaking new ground for Wheelchair Rugby League, and I'd like to congratulate Leeds Rhinos, who will play an equal part in achieving this milestone", said David Butler, Chairperson of the Eagles Foundation.
"Since the inception of our Wheelchair Rugby League team, we have strived to ensure that we make our club as diverse and as welcoming as possible, this game allows us to deliver against the feedback that some players prefer to play in an all-female environment. The game will be a great spectacle!"
The Betfred Wheelchair Super League clash takes place at 1.30pm, where the Eagles will be looking to build on last week's narrow loss to Hull FC when they welcome the reigning Champions to the Steel City. A further reserve grade also takes place at 11.30am - entry to all games is free!
