Eagles Women To Make Debut
23/04/2022
Sheffield Eagles will make their postponed start to the Women’s Rugby League season on Sunday 24th April when the team travel to Wigan St Patricks to kick off their League One campaign, following their opening game being postponed at the request of Rochdale Hornets.
Kicking off at 2pm, the Eagles will make their debut and will be hoping to impress from the off, with Head Coach Liam Browne having several very talented players available.
“There is a lot of pace in the side,” he explained.
“If we can make space, some of these players will be hard to put a hand on. It's not ideal that we had to postpone the first game, but it’s given us a couple more opportunities to train together and to put some structure into place so we can be more prepared.”
The team is made up of a diverse range of talents, with experienced League and Union players rubbing shoulders with players who are new to the game; Molly Haglington and Jenny Crofts will play their first ever game of Rugby in either code, Ellie Tiffin will make her open age debut at just 16 years of age having gained experience in the renowned Castleford High School and Tori Thomas will also make her Rugby League debut having transferred from football where she has been playing at Bradford City.
Wigan St Patricks lost their opening game to Halifax Panthers 36-20, but with the Eagles an unknown quantity, Browne is not wanting to make any bold predictions.
“I’m looking forward to us competing and playing to our strengths,” he added.
“We’ll aim to keep progressing and improving each week and learning and gaining experience from each game, understanding where our strengths lie and what areas we need to improve on.
“We will be a better team at the end of the season for certain.”
