Eagles snare Panthers prop Gwaze
04/11/2022
Sheffield Eagles have signed Halifax Panthers prop forward Titus Gwaze on a three-year deal.
Gwaze, who came through the Wakefield Trinity ranks before switching to London Broncos in 2021, crosses the Yorkshire divide as the Eagles strengthen their forward pack.
A no-nonsense forward, Gwaze certainly packs a punch and Director of Rugby Mark Aston expects big things from the front-rower.
“Signing Titus on a three-year deal signals our intention as a club and our belief in how good he is now and will become in future,” said Aston.
“When he’s on the pitch, you know about it as he carries the ball how a forward should. He gets into the guts of the defence.
“With the pack we’ve already built, Titus is one of the missing pieces for us to have a good tilt at a playoff push this year.
“It’s an exciting time to be at the Eagles, we all know that and Titus does too.”
Gwaze is pumped for a number of seasons in new surroundings at the Olympic Legacy Park, commenting: “I’m extremely excited and grateful to have signed a three-year deal,”
“It’s the longest I’ve signed anywhere so I’m over the moon and have been looking forward to getting started and meeting everyone.
“Once I spoke to Tubbs about his vision and where he wants things to go for the future, three years seemed to just fit and it wasn’t even a hard decision to commit to that long term!
“Where the club is going and the goals that are set sit right with me and are similar to my goals so it made so much sense to be here for three years.”
As mentioned by Aston, the Eagles’ heavy artillery is looking in fine fettle and Gwaze isn’t deterred by the competition.
“It’s a great feeling knowing the squad is really good and just getting better and better,”
"Competition for places is very healthy as it pushes me to learn from other players and work even harder!
“I’m all about working hard and earning your place, especially in new environments, so I can’t wait to just get going and really put my name forward during pre-season with the boys.
“It’s one exciting journey ahead and I am really grateful to have been given the opportunity.”
