Eagles Foundation 10k for £10k - Update 5

15/08/2023

After a little pause for some holidays, here is our fifth update on the Eagles Foundation’s 10k for £10k fundraising campaign, linked to the Sheffield 10k which takes place on Sunday 24th September!

The Foundation is aiming to raise £10,000 to support its work, building on the successes to date which includes running our Learning Disability, Women’s and Wheelchair Rugby League sides, supports our Touch and Walking Rugby sessions and helps us to reach 1000s of young people in Sheffield each year, with our most recent achievement being the launch of our Physical Disability Rugby League team.

Our page to receive donations is now open and receiving donations: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/ten-k-for-ten-k - please help us spread the word and of course donate where you can!

We’re aiming to get at least 20 people running and will provide everyone with a running top for the day. For those wanting to sign up, they need to visit https://www.runforall.com/events/10k/sheffield-10k/ and then email us at enquiries@eaglesfoundation.co.uk with your name and contact details so we know you’re registered!

This week's trio of runners sees Eagles Women's team flyer Tori Thomas throwing her hat into the ring! A natural athlete, having switched from playing football with Bradford City to join the Eagles, Tori's on-field pace should see the run squad's average time improve over 10km! "I'm looking forward to giving something back to this wonderful club and helping everyone who has benefitted from the work of the Foundation as everything grows over the next year!" she said. "I've loved Rugby League and so grateful for the opportunity here in Sheffield!"

Tom Froggatt is the PE Lead at Pathways Academy and the Primary School's love of Rugby League has grown hugely in the last year, owing to coaching taking place within the school by Eagles Foundation coaches and due to the school's involvement in the Rugby League World Cup which saw members of the Greek national team visit the school. "Rugby League is an amazing sport and the kids at Pathways love getting involved with the Eagles. Running the 10k to help with the fundraising effort is the least I could do!" noted Tom.

Our third runner proves that marriage is a balance of love and sacrifice. Eagles Foundation trustee Adam Hughes was gearing up to register for the 10k but finds himself facing knee surgery at the end of August. Enter his wife Kat: "When i heard about the 10k Challenge I encouraged Adam to get involved. Because of his knee operation I didn't want him to let the side down so have put my name forward" said Kat. "The Eagles Foundation does so much good work and Adam is gutted that he can't take part, but I know he'll be there supporting me and the rest of the team and if he can't run it, he'll definitely have to sponsor us!". Quite right.
