Eagles attend Willowbeck Opening
26/02/2020
Sheffield Eagles were guests at the recent opening on the brand-new unit at Willowbeck Care Home.
Eagles Head Coach Mark Aston along with player Corey Makelim were on hand at the opening along with the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup Trophy.
The new ‘Abberton’ unit provides rooms for 8 people with mental health needs.
Residents at Willowbeck are cared for in one of their seven units on the site, with each catering for residents specific and unique needs.
Units range from caring for people living with a range of complex needs arising from brain injuries and neurodegenerative conditions to those with complex physical needs, an all-male unit and a unit for those with complex needs and challenging behaviour.
Along with the Eagles, Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Tony Downing helped open the new unit along with entertainment from a local singer and magician to help keep the residents entertained!
It’s not the first time the Eagles have visited Willowbeck with a relationship being forged in early 2019 which has also saw residents also attending some matches with care staff.
Speaking of the day, Willowbeck Staff Member Jayne Powell said, “I’d like to thank the Eagles for coming down once again.”
“It was fantastic to see Mark and Corey along with the Trophy (1895 Cup) and for taking the time to interact with our residents.
“They took the time to have photos with them and we now have the task of getting these photos framed for their bedrooms!
“It can’t be measured just how much joy visits from the Eagles bring to our service users and we look forward to coming down to games once again this season.”
Eagles General Manager Liam Claffey added, “We’d like to thank Jayne and all the staff at Willowbeck for inviting the club to the opening of the new unit.
“We’ve forged a great relationship and it’s a humbling and emotional experience visiting the centre and – in particular seeing a signed shirt and programme in our of the resident’s rooms.”
“We look forward to continuing and building our relationship moving forward.”
