Domingos and Haynes named in England Wheelchair squad

Today, it has been confirmed that Sheffield Eagles Wheelchair stars Luis Domingos and Chris Haynes have both been selected in Tom Coyd MBE’s England Wheelchair squad for the upcoming World Cup in Australia.
Both players were named in the initial 12-man training squad, before being selected in the final 10-man group that will travel to Australia to represent England on the world stage.
It’s a fantastic achievement for both following excellent seasons with the Eagles in 2026, our second year competing in the Betfred Wheelchair Super League.
Domingos, who joined the Eagles from Castleford Tigers at the start of the season, enjoyed an impressive first year in Sheffield, finishing as our top try-scorer with 30 tries. His performances also saw him named our 2026 Wheelchair Players’ Player of the Year at our presentation evening.
Haynes has enjoyed another outstanding campaign, scoring 28 tries and making a number of important contributions for Greg Brown’s side. His efforts saw him named our 2026 Super League Wheelchair Player of the Year.
"Selecting a World Cup squad is never easy, but this group has earned the opportunity through their performances, commitment and professionalism throughout the programme. We have a blend of experienced international players and those who have emerged through the pathway, and together, I believe we can be a team that’s hard to play against, with the versatility to win in different ways", said Tom Coyd MBE.
"Every player understands what it means to wear the England shirt and the responsibility that comes with it. Yesterday’s brilliant Super League Grand Final was a testament to the special community that we are privileged to represent on the world stage.
"We've had an outstanding preparation period which will continue with our final camp on the weekend of October 3/4 at St George’s Park before we fly out to Australia on October 22nd.
"The squad has developed a real connection on and off the field. They've challenged each other to get better all the time, and we've seen significant growth across the group. We are excited for the tough challenges ahead, and the players have earned the right to be confident in the work they've put in.”
