Conor Fitzsimmons joins Sheffield Eagles!
13/10/2025
Conor Fitzsimmons becomes our third new addition ahead of the 2026 campaign as he joins Sheffield Eagles on a two-year deal from York Knights.
The forward links up with the Eagles for the next two seasons having spent the last three years in North Yorkshire.
Fitzsimmons started his career with Castleford Tigers in 2016, before he’d go one to spend time with Workington Town and Newcastle Thunder, before he made the move to York ahead of the 2023 campaign.
The 27-year-old has helped York reach the Betfred Championship playoffs in each of the last three years, so that’s something that he’ll be looking to do again in 2026 and beyond with the Eagles.
Speaking on signing for Sheffield, Conor said, “I’m happy to get it over the line, and I’m really excited to get going. I’ve played a lot of games now in the Championship and I’ve probably become well established, and I hope that I’ll be able to bring all that experience with me for the next two years.
“I pride myself on hard-work, I think that’s every middle’s job. I like to work hard for the team and do the little things well under pressure.
“It’s well known that Sheffield didn’t have a great year last season, they’ve always been fighting for the playoffs for as long as I’ve known, so that will be the goal coming in for next season.”
Head Coach Craig Lingard added, “Conor’s a well-proven Championship middle who’s been in a very good system at York. He’s been a top performer for them over the last three seasons; he gives us a bit of flexibility too of playing either as an out-and-out middle or as a direct thirteen who can link between the middles and the halves.
“He’s a tough and physical forward, and I’m really pleased to be able to get him over the line.”
