Barrow fight back to take Steel City spoils
18/07/2022
Sheffield Eagles were left licking their wounds once again as another comfortable lead was squandered, this time against Barrow Raiders at the Olympic Legacy Park.
Winning by 20 points with as many minutes left on the clock. Barrow fought back with four converted tries to snatch victory - 32-36 - from the jaws of defeat.
The Eagles led 22-12 at half-time thanks to tries from Matty Chrimes, Ben Jones-Bishop, Cory Aston and Quentin Laulu-Togaga’e. Barrow’s four pointers came courtesy of Tee Ritson and Jarrad Stack.
Things got better for the hosts after the restart as they extended their lead through Joel Farrell and Jones-Bishop.
However, as Barrow tried to turn the screw and force the issue, Sheffield’s defence couldn’t seem to handle the Cumbrians’ off-the-cuff style.
Ryan Johnston, Ellis Gillam and Shane Toal scored tries in a seven-minute period that brought Barrow to within two points of their opponents.
On the last play of the game, Hakim Miloudi’s offload - despite three defenders being in close attendance, found Ritson who had the pace to get past the Eagles rearguard to complete the comeback.
