April is Autism Awareness Month, and across the last four weeks, we have shared stories from players and staff across our teams who live with autism, highlighting their experiences and how Sheffield Eagles support them.
Today, we hear from Ben Taylor, who is a player for our LDRL team.
Ben’s been a part of our LDRL team since 2023, where he was invited to a training session by Chloe, his friend since pre -school.
“I’ve always felt connected to the LDRL, the spirit going through, it’s like an extended family, the trips, meals, a very well laid out social circle; I get out of Sheffield; LDRL Festivals, Magic Weekends, the flag waving at Wembley, it’s pretty good playing in front of multiple people”.
Ben was diagnosed as autistic at Nursery. He volunteers at 3 charity shops. LDRL gives Ben “shared memories” with his best friend Chloe, and his younger brother Matt, who is also part of the squad.
Ben also values LDRL because “it’s nice to be seen; it shows people that Learning Difficulties don’t affect you”.
