Aston looking forward to Widnes challenge
19/06/2021
Following a 28-32 victory over Oldham at Bower Fold last Saturday, Sheffield Eagles chief Mark Aston spoke about his side’s next challenge as they travel to Widnes Vikings.
The Eagles’ win over Oldham stopped the rot of six games without a success but they made it tough for themselves after Tyler Dickinson was sent off on the hour mark.
The visitors managed to survive a Roughyeds revival and now the focus turns to Widnes, who have also gone through a Jekyll and Hyde vein of form.
“They (Widnes) have a quality set of players that are experienced,” Aston said.
“They have a strong forward pack and a couple of good half-backs in Danny Craven and Matty Smith.
“We all know about Jack Owens too, who can play in the halves and at full-back.
“They will be disappointed with their start to the year but they’re starting to hit their form now.
“They will be a massive threat but the pleasing thing for us is that we’ll be going into the game with a smile on our face, as it’s been a different atmosphere in training.
“We will look to challenge ourselves against Widnes after putting in a good week’s work.”
