Aston "delighted" after victory over Bulls

06/04/2021

Sheffield Eagles' Director of Rugby Mark Aston was "delighted" with his side’s performance after the Eagles started their Betfred Championship season with a convincing victory over Bradford Bulls.

The Eagles led 28-0 at the break and ran out 50-12 winners courtesy of tries from Josh Guzdek, Joel Farrell, Ryan Millar, Izaac Farrell and doubles from Anthony Thackeray, Aaron Brown and James Glover.

Aston praised his side’s performance and their attitude, saying: “I’m delighted, I thought we were great,”

“We’ve had a good pre-season, we’ve worked hard, we learnt a few lessons from the game against York and we put them into practice there.

“I thought our attitude was first class.

“There were some classic tries. I thought some of the play that we threw out there was great and the boys have to take a lot of credit.

“They’ve worked really hard and I thought they came up with a performance today.”

Aston praised his half-back pairing of Thackeray and Farrell after both crossed the whitewash.

Farrell notched to give the Eagles their seventh try of the afternoon, during the second half, before Thackeray scored back-to-back efforts to put the game beyond Bradford.

“I thought Thacks and Izaac were class today. They took us around the field,” he added.

“We moved their big fellas around, which was obviously the game plan.

“I like to entertain, there are no fans here yet but when they come back we want to entertain and put a smile on their faces

“I like to see the ball moved about, I like to see fast-flowing rugby league.

“That is what we’re aiming to achieve, we did it for probably 70 minutes today.”
