Written by Will Russell
Workington Town will be stiff opposition for the Eagles after their stellar season last time out. Another of the sides who were in League 1 last year, they finished second in the league table, only one point behind winners North Wales Crusaders, in an extremely tight campaign.
The Town showed their quality when they hit top form during the middle of the year, which saw them top the league for a number of weeks. Only losing four games all year, Workington will be up for the challenge of competing against Championship opposition as they look to continue their fine form into the upcoming season.
When we play them in 2026?
R13 | Sunday 10th May (A) | Fibrus Community Stadium (3pm)
R20 | Sunday 19th July (H) | Steel City Stadium (3pm)
2026 Recruitment
To strengthen their bid to compete with the tougher opposition, Workington have added some more quality to their side.
Adding size to their pack, the Town have signed Tuarere Rawhiti, a New Zealander back-row forward, as well as the promising signing of Tobias Gibson, a young prop from Newcastle Thunder.
Another player they have signed from Newcastle is Alex Donaghy, one Workington fans should be very excited about. A speedster who can play any positions in the backs, he scored two full length of the pitch tries against Workington last year, something Town fans will be hoping he can replicate in the blue of Workington this season.
Ones to Watch
After their extremely successful season last year, three of their players made it into the League 1 team of the season, with Zarrin Galea also picking up Player of the Year.
The other two players include Jake Carter, the top point scorer in the division last year, as well as Mason Lewthwaite.
They’ll be looking to continue their fine form into the new combined division and prove they can compete amongst some of the best players in the Championship in 2026.
