Worrincy commits to the Red & Gold for 2021

11/09/2020

Rob Worrincy has signed a new one-year deal with Sheffield Eagles.

Worrincy rejoined the club from Dewsbury Rams ahead of the 2020 season and he has decided to put pen to paper with the Eagles again.

A try-scoring machine in the second tier for over a decade, Worrincy’s re-signing comes as good news to Head Coach Mark Aston who will be looking to make the most of the winger’s experience.

“We’re delighted that he has re-signed,” said Aston.

“Obviously Rob might have retired at the end of this year if it had panned out fully, as he has got his career sorted outside of rugby.

“He doesn’t want to end it like this, with the season being cut short. He wants to end it on his own terms and write that final chapter.

“As a senior player, his knowledge and understanding is outstanding.

“When you have got a couple of young centres like Connor Bower and another who is coming in, he’s someone who will take them under his wing and help them develop.

“Of course we have got the coaching ability of Keith Senior too, so both of them will be an asset in helping develop these players.”

Worrincy commented that there’s some ‘unfinished business’ to deal with, due to how this year ended.

“It has been disappointing how the 2020 season ended so we have got unfinished business,” he added.

“It was a difficult start for us as we had new players in and a new structure which we had to get used to.

“As we started to get used to the system, and also getting some good results, everything came to a stop.”

Worrincy is eager to get back into training with the rest of the Eagles squad as they prepare for the new campaign.

However, he does admit that it will be strange once everything returns to normal after an extended break on the sidelines.

“It will be different when we go back in as we haven’t picked up a ball in six months,” he said.

“I’m sure Tubbs will get us all working hard ahead of the 2021 season.

“I can’t wait to get back out there and repay some of the faith he has shown in me.”
