Women's Red Squad named for Castleford Tigers (A)

Sheffield Eagles Women's Red team get their Championship season underway on Sunday afternoon with a trip to face Castleford Tigers (2pm).

In the words of Head Coach Liam Browne, he feels the side have had a great pre-season in the build-up to the 2024 campaign.

“We've had a fantastic pre-season, which seems to have flown by in a flash. We're thrilled to welcome new additions to both our red and gold teams, including players and coaches, as we continue to strengthen our already solid foundation”, said Browne.

“Our partnership with York has been great in the development of some of our players, they've been training with them weekly, and I've had the privilege of learning from some of the best. This week, we're especially excited to integrate a couple of York players into our game day squad.

“Looking ahead to the upcoming season, we anticipate a tough challenge. The top 5 teams from last year's championship have remained, with newcomers joining us from Super League 2. However, we're confident in our ability to rise to the occasion. Our goal is to improve every week and prove our place in this league.

“The Challenge Cup presents an even greater test, but we're eager to compete against the best teams in the country.

“Our journey begins this Sunday against Castleford. Previewing the first game is tricky; we don't have previous results to reference, and injuries have affected our squad. Nevertheless, we're determined and prepared. Our focus is on executing our game plan—completing our sets, working in pairs on defence and attack—and meeting whatever challenges the Tigers present.”
