Will Oakes extends stay with Sheffield Eagles

05/10/2026

Sheffield Eagles can confirm that Will Oakes has signed a new one-year contract, keeping the centre at the club for the 2027 Championship season.

Oakes joined the Eagles towards the end of the 2025 campaign, making his debut from the bench in a home defeat to Bradford Bulls before starting the final three games of the season. He opened his Eagles account in a 46-6 victory over Hunslet, scoring his first try for the club.

After renewing his contract for the 2026 season, Oakes began the campaign on loan with Batley Bulldogs, making four appearances across the Championship and Challenge Cup. He featured against Halifax, Doncaster and Midlands Hurricanes in the league, before lining up against Catalans Dragons in the third round of the Challenge Cup.

Following his return to Sheffield, Oakes established himself as a regular in the Eagles side, predominantly lining up at centre and forming an impressive right-edge partnership with Joe Brown.

The 2026 campaign proved to be Oakes’ best season to date, making 25 appearances across the year, including 21 in an Eagles shirt. He also crossed for two tries, scoring against Salford and Halifax Panthers.

Now set to continue with the Eagles for the 2027 season, Oakes becomes the 15th player confirmed in the club’s 2027 Betfred Championship squad.
