Wheelchair squad named for Bedford Tigers clash

15/03/2024

Sheffield Eagles Wheelchair side are also in action this coming weekend when we take on Bedford Tigers in a pre-season friendly on Saturday morning at the English Institute of Sport (11:30am kick-off).

In only their second-ever game, Saturday’s opponents will be hoping for a better performance having played the Eagles last December in a friendly, where they were defeated 64-10 at the University of Bedford by the Eagles.

This weekend will see the Bedford side name a trio of Wheelchair rugby internationals, with Rick Rodgers (Ireland) and Pete Lauder and Midge Hartley (both Scotland) all expected to feature against the Sheffield Eagles.

We head into this game looking to build on last weekend’s encouraging performance against Leeds Rhinos, with the aim of the game being to get more valuable minutes in the tank ahead of the start of the new season.

The likes of Steven Reilly, Lisa Kelly-Pride and David Butler won’t feature this weekend, but there are returns for Ben Wilson, Helen Calder and James Birchnall, who missed last weekend’s visit of Leeds Rhinos.
