Wheelchair RL Championship North: Storm vs Eagles - Match Preview

22/04/2022

Sheffield Eagles play their final game in the opening portion of the 2022 Wheelchair Rugby League Season when they meet league leaders Mersey Storm on Saturday, 2pm Kick Off at Forge Valley School.

The Eagles have had two weeks off from competitive action with a pause for Easter, but go into the game on a positive after a strong performance in a friendly against Wigan Warriors. Still searching their first win of the season, the Eagles know they will face strong opposition with Mersey Storm currently sat at the top of Championship North, and will be seeking to put in a solid performance.

Head Coach Greg Brown has a full roster to choose from and will hand a competitive debut to Adam Hughes who has not featured since the team’s first outing against Rochdale Hornets in its very first friendly game and will bring Vicky Brooks, David Butler, Shaun Orton, Stephen Palin-Campbell and Stacey Roulson back into contention who rested for the Wigan game.

“We’re expecting a tough game with Mersey currently top of the pile” commented Greg Brown. “But our players have shown time and time again this season they are resilient, determined to learn and put in a strong performance to take us into the second phase of the season and I am confident that we’ll put in a good showing. We’ve had a complete week off and all the players have been itching to get back to it, so we’ll be full of enthusiasm and we’ll be aiming to start strongly and take it from there.”
