Welham signs one-year deal
14/09/2022
Following on from the announcement his wingman - Ben Jones-Bishop - is staying with the club, we can announce the retention of centre Kris Welham for another year.
Welham, similarly to Jones-Bishop, has been a massive part of the Eagles’ improvement during the 2022 season.
With 16 tries in 29 appearances, a bucketload of assists and palmed faces, the former Super League outside back will remain with Sheffield in 2023 to carry on his fruitful partnership with BJB.
On the re-signing, Director of Rugby Mark Aston said: “It’s a big statement of intent for the club that we can keep hold of both Kris and Ben,”
“They have been two of our best performers all season and they don’t show any signs of slowing down.
“With Kris, it’s also a help to have him guiding some of the youngsters too.
“Ryan Johnson’s game has come on leaps and bounds once again this season and we can certainly put a bit of that down to the work Kris and Keith (Senior, assistant coach) have done with him.
“Kris is brilliant to have around the club and it’ll be exciting for all of us to see him and Bish link up once again.”
