Wallis' debut delight against hometown club Hull FC
30/03/2022
Last weekend will live long in the memory of young Sheffield Eagles back-rower Will Wallis, who made his first career appearance against none other than his hometown team Hull FC.
After the draw was made a couple of weeks prior, Wallis admitted he had his mind on the game and wanted to do all he can to get into the match day squad.
Eagles Director of Rugby Mark Aston gave Wallis the opportunity he had been looking for, coming off the bench against a full-strength Hull side.
“It was great to make my debut and get off the mark,” he said.
“It was a good fixture to make my first appearance in, against my hometown club.
“I’ve kept my head down for the six months I’ve been here.
“I’ve been working hard and obviously we’ve had a few injuries which gave me the chance to get into the 17.
“I found out (about selection) on Friday on the team run.
“I was really happy to get into the squad. It had been on my mind since the draw came out.
“I was doing all I could at training, I spoke to Tubbs about how much it means to me.
“I was really happy, and also lucky, to have that chance given to me and to make my debut against them.”
