Try Tag Rugby comes to Sheffield

Try Tag Rugby is excited to announce the start of a brand new league in Sheffield this summer.

Try Tag Rugby, a partner of the Rugby Football League, is one of the leading social sports organisations providing high-quality Tag Rugby Leagues and events across the UK.

Tag Rugby is a fun and exciting minimal contact social sport suitable for all adults, no previous rugby experience is necessary and it’s a sport that can be enjoyed by beginners and experienced players alike and is proving really popular! Try Tag Rugby, through the RFL, have received full government clearance as a COVID-19 safe, approved team sport.

The new Sheffield league will start with a mixed league on Thursday evenings at Bolehill Recreation Ground (postcode: S10 1QH) in Crookes. Free Taster Sessions will be held on Thursday 22nd April and Thursday 29th April, both starting at 7pm.

The Sheffield league start date is Thursday 6th May.

Tag Rugby is a great way to meet new people, as well as a chance to meet up with existing friends. There will be a weekly post-match social, where players come together to enjoy a drink with their teammates and opposition (subject to COVID-19 restrictions on the opening of pubs & bars).

Try Tag Rugby National Licence Manager, Carl Duckels commented, “We’re thrilled to be launching in England’s “Steel City” of Sheffield this summer,"

"Our other Yorkshire Leagues have already shown there is a great appetite for Tag Rugby in the region.

Tag Rugby can be enjoyed by all, no matter what age, gender or rugby experience level and we are confident that the people of Sheffield will fall in love with the sport, just like the thousands of people currently playing Tag Rugby weekly around the country.”

What is Tag Rugby?

Tag Rugby is a minimal contact team game in which each player wears shorts with Velcro patches with two tags attached to them.

The mode of play is similar to Rugby League or Touch Rugby with attacking players attempting to dodge, evade and pass a rugby ball while defenders attempt to prevent them scoring by “tagging” – pulling a Velcro attached tag from the ball carrier.

Seven players in each team are allowed on the field at a time, whilst the field dimensions are 70m by 50m.

The attacking team has six plays or tags to try to score a try or take the ball down field as close to the line as possible.

Tries are worth one point and there are no conversions. In mixed Tag Rugby, female tries are worth two points.
