Club Statement: Community Stadium at Olympic Legacy Park

02/03/2022

It is with disappointment Sheffield Eagles must announce the opening of our new home at the Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park Community Stadium has been delayed due to unforeseen circumstances.

Scarborough Group International have provided the following statement: “Due to circumstances beyond our control we regretfully confirm that there has been an additional minor delay to the construction of the Community Stadium at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, with the target completion date now scheduled for 15th April.

“This means that Sheffield Eagles will now play their first home game against Widnes Vikings on Monday 23 May 2022 instead of London Broncos on Friday 15 April 2022.

“Our construction team has made a significant amount of progress on site, having overcome the challenges associated with Brexit and the pandemic.

“However, recent adverse weather conditions, including high winds and freezing temperatures, has impacted the progression of certain elements.

“We understand the disappointment and frustration this delay is likely to cause and continue to work closely with our principal contractor, GMI Construction Group PLC to ensure the Community Stadium is completed as soon as possible.”

Whilst as a club we share your undoubted disappointment, we fully understand the reasoning behind this decision and we are committed to working with Scarborough Group to ensure our game against Widnes in May is held at the Olympic Legacy Park.

Information regarding the games against London Broncos and Newcastle Thunder will follow shortly.
