Sheffield Eagles Women Announce Open Training Session and Exciting Developments for the 2025 Season

22/11/2024

Following a remarkable season in 2024, culminating in Sheffield Eagles reaching the Women’s Championship final, our Women's side are thrilled to announce an open training session on Wednesday, 11th December, at 7PM, taking place at Sheffield Hallam University Sports Park.

This session will serve as an opportunity for players to trial for the Eagles’ Women’s Championship team, while also welcoming newcomers interested in trying rugby league and training with the club's second team, which focuses on participation and player development.

Women’s Championship Team Leadership

The 2025 Championship squad will be led by Andrea Dobson and Louis Townsend.

Andrea is one of the most accomplished figures in Women’s Rugby League, representing England in four World Cups, earning 24 caps during her international career. Her passion and enthusiasm for developing the women’s game are unparalleled, and she is committed to driving Sheffield Eagles Women forward. The ultimate goal is to see the team competing in the Women’s Super League in the near future, establishing Sheffield as a force in the sport.

Louis is a semi-professional rugby union player, has represented England Students U19s, bringing a deep understanding of high-performance rugby. Joining the Eagles last season as strength and conditioning lead, Louis has also contributed significant coaching expertise. His blend of experience as a player and coach across codes adds a unique dimension to the team’s development, reinforcing their ambitions for the upcoming season.

The dual registration partnership with Super league Champions York Valkyrie will remain in 2025, which will continue to create unique opportunities for the players at both clubs.

Exciting Pathway for Girls

The Eagles are proud to unveil a new U16’s girls pathway programme, spearheaded by Liam Browne, now a full-time member of the Eagles Foundation. Liam brings three years of experience with the women’s side, positioning him perfectly to develop a sustainable and high-quality pathway.

Andrea Dobson, Rugby Development Manager, expressed her excitement:

“We’re delighted to have Liam on board full-time. His experience and passion will be instrumental in growing women’s and girls’ rugby league in South Yorkshire.”

Look out for more information soon to see how you can get involved.
