Sheffield 10k for £10k - Update 3
11/07/2023
Here’s your third update on the Eagles Foundation’s 10k for £10k fundraising campaign, linked to the Sheffield 10k which takes place on Sunday 24th September!
The Foundation is aiming to raise £10,000 to support its work, building on the successes to date, which includes running our Learning Disability, Women’s and Wheelchair Rugby League sides, supports our Touch and Walking Rugby sessions and helps us to reach 1000s of young people in Sheffield each year. We’re aiming to get at least 20 people running and will provide everyone with a running top for the day and a group Just Giving page is in the final throes of being set up!
Runners need to sign up at https://www.runforall.com/events/10k/sheffield-10k/ and then email us at enquiries@eaglesfoundation.co.uk with your name and contact details so we know you’re registered!
Our latest crop of runners to sign up have a range of connections to the club!
Karen Forman – Eagles Wheelchair Player Jack Johnson’s Mum! Karen cannot speak highly enough of the opportunities the Eagles Foundation and playing Wheelchair Rugby League has given her son Jack, who won the player’s player of the year award in 2022. A Rugby League fan for all his life, Jack’s cerebral palsy prevented him playing the game he loved and after a poor experience at another Wheelchair RL club, Jack finally found his place in the Red & Gold of Sheffield. “It has given him so much confidence, the opportunity to belong to a group, and so much happiness” enthuses Karen, who often acts as the club’s scorekeeper during games.
Kate Williams – Eagles Foundation Coach! Kate hails from Wales originally and is a huge fan of Rugby of either code. Kate works for the Foundation to deliver coaching in schools, at camps and for organised groups and also the Eagles girls section on Wednesdays, inspiring the next generation of girls to come through. She has run a 10k previously but by her own admission is “not a runner of any kind” and will be working hard and against the odds to complete the run!
Harry Welburn – Eagles Fan! Harry is an Eagles fan and this season has had the pleasure of brining his 6 year old grandson to watch the games. Last September Harry had a cancerous tumour removed from his colon, so running the 10k a year later is an important milestone for Harry. He also ran the 10k in 2019 where he finished in last place – but this was one month before a hip replacement, so a remarkable achievement. We’re delighted to have Harry on board!
Jack Levine – Eagles Director! Jack is on the board of the Sheffield Eagles and brings with him his friend George Thompson, with both being committed to the work of the Eagles Foundation and the great work that takes place and both are looking forward to playing their part in the fundraising.
They join the list of those runners previously profiled:
Andrea Dobson (Foundation Development Officer)
Richard King (Foundation Heritage Officer)
Jack Pemberton (Foundation Disability Inclusion Officer)
David Butler (Foundation Trustee)
Capucine Auger (Women’s Player)
Beth Arnold (Women’s Player)
Liam Brown (Women’s Head Coach)
Dan Burt (Women’s Assistant Coach)
Next week we’ll be launching our JustGiving page to start the donations!
