Sheffield 10k for £10k - Update 1

26/06/2023

Following the launch of the Eagles Foundation’s £10k for 10k fundraising campaign, linked to the Sheffield 10k which takes place on Sunday 24th September, we’ll be bringing you a weekly update every Tuesday as to progress!

The Foundation is aiming to raise £10,000 to support its work, building on the successes to date, which includes running our Learning Disability, Women’s and Wheelchair Rugby League sides, supports our Touch and Walking Rugby sessions and helps us to reach 1000s of young people in Sheffield each year. We’re aiming to get at least 20 people running and will provide everyone with a running top for the day and a group Just Giving page will be set up In due course.

Runners need to sign up at https://www.runforall.com/events/10k/sheffield-10k/ and then email us at enquiries@eaglesfoundation.co.uk with your name and contact details so we know you’re registered!

Our first four runners have signed up:

Andrea Dobson – Andrea’s become a popular face at the Eagles since she started as the Foundation’s Development Officer a couple of years ago. Despite her glittering international Rugby League playing career, Andrea admits that she would never be known as a runner and that the 10k run will be quite the challenge and she’s started her training already to ensure that she will be in good shape to take on the Sheffield 10k. “

Richard King – Long time supporter and the Foundation’s Heritage Project Officer, Richard King is a regular short and middle distance runner, though by his own admission says that he goes for months at a time without having any desire to run, so the 10k and the challenge of raising funds for the Foundation are a big motivation for him to use the summer time to build on his fitness and increase his distances running.

Jack Pemberton – Jack is the newest member of staff, joining as Disability Inclusion Officer earlier this month. Jack doesn’t describe himself as a regular runner, but in 2019 he conquered the London Marathon and raised £2,000 for Child Bereavement UK, so when the £10k for 10k was suggested, he wasn’t worried about the distance and signed up immediately!

David Butler – the Eagles Foundation’s Chairman runs in fits and starts but, having trained for and delivered the 2021 London Marathon in an impressive time for his age, says he lost his mojo for running and needs a challenge to remotivate him and running to raise money for the Eagles Foundation fits the bill. He’s already ordered new trainers and written a training plan for himself!

Next Tuesday we’ll be profiling more members of the Eagles family who have put themselves forward to run and bringing you details of how you can sponsor them and contribute to the fantastic work that the Eagles Foundation undertakes!
