Scenes on Toast as Dan Departs

27/10/2023

All at Sheffield Eagles RLFC would like to give their best wishes to Dan Fowler as he departs the club after an unforgettable spell working in the media department.

We wish well wishes and safe travels to Dan and his wife, Amy, as they plan to travel through South America over the next ten months.

Dan, a lifelong Eagles supporter, was asked to write content for the official match day programme after his blog was spotted by the then media manager in 2014. From then on, Dan took more and more responsibility with the programme and has recorded interviews and written pieces for every edition since.

In 2015, the club asked Dan to monitor the social media channels. This was a memorable season for the club on the pitch as the Men's team finished in the top four of the Championship and earned a spot in the end of season Qualifiers, where some great moments, including a famous win over then Super League side Wakefield Trinity at Bramall Lane. In this time, Dan continued to increase his voluntary workload with match day tweets, match previews and reports..

At the end of 2015, Dan moved to the University of Sunderland, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Journalism. Despite being based in the North East, Dan's love and hard work for the club continued to shine through in this period, as he managed to attend a significant amount of fixtures, many of which included long bus and train journeys.

The up-and-down nature of the club's nomadic experience since the closure has saw the Eagles rollercoaster take a lot of bends and weaves, with the highest points in Dan's time at the club coming at in 2019. No, not the win at Cup Final Wembley Stadium, but the last-minute 1895 Cup win over South Yorkshire neighbours Doncaster queening the infamous "SCENES ON TOAST" at Featherstone's Millennium Stadium.

In all seriousness, the win at Wembley over Widnes proved a reward for Dan, the other volunteers and everyone connected with Sheffield Eagles for their incredible commitment to the club. Similarly, the return the to the city in 2022, again in a victory over the Widnes Vikings, provided another memorable night for those associated with the Eagles.

Everyone at the club wishes Dan & and Amy all the best for their travels and the future. Thank You Dan.
