Peacock Cup Preview

19/05/2022

Sheffield Eagles Wheelchair Rugby League team will make their debut in the Peacock Cup on Sunday 22nd May, a charity event with monies raised going to the Hope House Children’s Hospices Charity, at Glyndwr University in Wrexham.

For the Eagles it will be the club’s first time playing on a full sized 45m x 20m pitch and will see them face familiar opposition in Rochdale Hornets and hosts North Wales Crusaders as well as a side they are yet to face, Welsh outfit Torfaen Tigers.

The four-cornered tournament will see games on 30 minutes each being played, before the top two sides will meet for a celebratory final over two 20-minute periods.

Head Coach Greg Brown has had to rotate his squad for the trip over the border with several players unavailable for the game, with Stephen Palin-Campbell and Jenny Pearson both undergoing hospital treatment, Vicky, April and Will Brooks being on holiday and Stacey Roulson and Adam Hughes unavailable due to work.

Returning to the side after missing the Challenge Trophy games is David Butler while Christopher Brown will make his competitive debut for the side, demonstrating the all-ages appeal of Wheelchair RL, with the youngster having been part of the club for some time.

“We’re looking forward to returning to Wales where we made our competitive debut earlier this season,” commented Greg Brown.

“The Peacock Cup gives a great opportunity for some of our developing players to get some more game time under their belts and the opportunity for us to play on a full sized pitch is exciting and has added a new dimension to our preparation.

“The main thing is that we’ll go and have fun and help to raise funds for a very valuable cause.”

Sheffield Eagles: Shaun Orton, Christopher Brown, Lottie Davis-Browne, David Butler, Jack Johnson, Emma Pearson.
