Our new captain is announced for 2025!
12/01/2025
Sheffield Eagles are delighted to announce that second-row forward Joel Farrell has been named as our new Captain for the 2025 season.
The 2024 Men’s Player of the Year takes over the role, which recently became vacant following the recent retirement of Anthony Thackeray.
The 30-year-old enters his seventh season as an Eagles player this year, and he has scored 40 tries for the club in only 120 appearances, averaging a try in every three appearances in the Red and Gold.
Joel remains available for Corporate Sponsorship for 2025. If you’d like to see your name next to our new Captain, please email Mark.Aston@sheffieldeagles.com to get the ball rolling today!
Joel will be joined in the captaincy department this season by Matty Marsh and Titus Gwaze, who have both been appointed as our vice-captains for 2025.
Marsh had a stand-out debut year for the Eagles in 2024 as he finished alongside Matty Dawson-Jones as the club’s joint-top scorer with 19 tries.
Marsh will once again be proudly sponsored by Premier Kia and Liz Elfleet respectively in 2025.
Gwaze also joins Marsh as a vice-captain as the loose forward enters his third season as an Eagles, after impressive performances last season saw him cross for four tries in 30 appearances.
Gwaze will be proudly sponsored by Jack Smith
Titus remains available for Corporate Sponsorship. If you want to become either of his sponsors for the season, please get in touch!
We’d like to congratulate Joel, Matty and Titus on their appointments for the upcoming season!
