The Eagles made it a third successive victory this afternoon in the Betfred Championship following a 10-18 win against York Knights.
Mark Aston named two changes from his starting thirteen that featured against Widnes Vikings last time out as Anthony Thackeray and Joel Farrell came in to start in the place of Jack Hansen and Jesse Sene-Lefao.
There was also a place on the bench for Tyler Dickinson, who returned to the side from injury.
It only took Sheffield seven minutes before we took the lead as Kris Welham got the ball down after a break down the right by Ben Jones-Bishop.
Cory Aston added the conversion, his first of three successful kicks for the afternoon in North Yorkshire.
An even twenty-minute period followed in North Yorkshire as neither side could find a break through, but it was the Eagles who scored their second try of the afternoon seven minutes before the break as Thackeray spotted a gap in which he went over to score in as he marked his return to action from injury with a try.
After trailing 0-12 at the break, it was York who scored the game’s first points of the second half as Ata Hingano and Will Dagger linked-up down the left before finding a gap for winger Brad Ward to go over and score, but Dagger couldn’t deliver with the boot as his kick flew wide of the mark.
With six minutes to go, Hingano spotted a gap himself and danced through three Eagles defenders to score, and Dagger’s successful kick pulling the game to 10-12 creating a frantic closing few minutes for Aston’s men.
But it was the Eagles who clinched the victory with only a minute remaining as Joel Farrell found his way over to score from dummy half underneath the sticks to secure a valuable win for the Eagles.
The Eagles are back in action on home soil this coming Friday when we welcome Halifax Panthers to Olympic Legacy Park in Round 14 of the Betfred Championship (7:30pm).
