Match Report | Featherstone Rovers 6-20 Sheffield Eagles
15/09/2024
Sheffield Eagles returned to winning ways in their penultimate away game of the season as they beat Featherstone Rovers 6-20 at the Millennium Stadium.
The Eagles were looking for a first win in five matches and called upon the likes of Jack Hansen, Joel Farrell and Connor Bower, who all returned into the starting line-up in West Yorkshire.
The home side were also looking to return to winning fortunes after their six-match unbeaten run came to an end last weekend following a disappointing result against Swinton.
It was Sheffield who struck first at the Millennium Stadium in the 12th minute as Ben Jones-Bishop collected Jack Hansen’s kick into the air on the last, and the winger was able to power his way over into the corner to score.
After a missed conversion attempt from the Eagles, Featherstone edged into a 6-4 lead only a matter of minutes later as a well-worked move towards the left was finished off in the corner by Connor Wynne.
But from there, it was all one-way traffic for the visitors as they went on to score sixteen unanswered points to secure an all important win on the road.
Cory Aston’s 22nd minute penalty in front of the sticks levelled the game up after Featherstone were judged to commit a high tackle, before Matty Marsh’s 18th try of the season put us ahead minutes before the break to go 6-12 up.
Aston converted another penalty seventeen minutes into the second-half to put Sheffield two scores ahead as they approached the final quarter in West Yorkshire.
After defending a number of consecutive defensive sets on our own line, victory was wrapped up with thirteen minutes to go as a loose ball was picked up by Jones-Bishop, who raced away ninety metres to score and help wrap up a 6-20 victory on the road.
Sheffield return home next weekend in our final home game of the season as fellow playoff hopefuls York Knights come to Olympic Legacy Park next Friday evening (7:30pm).
