Sheffield Eagles full-back Josh Guzdek has signed a new one-year contract.
A steady figure at number one, Guzdek has been a fixture in Mark Aston’s lineup since he signed from Dewsbury in 2019.
With the club moving back to the city, the former Hull KR junior is looking forward to playing his part in an historic time for the Eagles.
“I’m excited for another year as it’ll be my fourth season with the club and with Tubbs,” he said.
“It’ll be good to be back in Sheffield with the new stadium. We’ll try and get some of the fans back with some good performances.
“Hopefully we can build an atmosphere down there as we built something good the last time we were at the OLP.
“It’s a fast pitch that you can play some good rugby on, so hopefully we’ll play some attractive football on there.”
Looking ahead to the new campaign, Guzdek has set some individual goals but also has high hopes for the team as a whole.
“Personally I want to have a better pre-season and hopefully go into the games a little fitter and stronger,” he added.
“I’m always pushing to get better and as a team, we’ll be wanting to go for that top six.
“As we saw this year, it was all pretty tight so a couple of wins could easily have pushed you closer to the playoffs.
"I don’t think we’ll be far off if we can get some consistency and build confidence.”
Eagles coach Mark Aston commented: “Guz has been one of the most consistent performers for us over the past few years,”
“He’s been rock solid.
“He doesn’t make many mistakes and he’s dependable from the back.”
