Joel Farrell | Pre-Match Interview

27/04/2024

Back-rower Joel Farrell was delighted to feature last weekend for the Eagles as he made his 100th appearance for the club in our emphatic 0-46 win at Halifax Panthers.

The former Dewsbury Rams and Batley Bulldogs forward joined the Eagles ahead of the 2019 season, and he has gone on to score 34 times for the Eagles, accumulating a total number of 136 points for the club.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow's clash against Barrow Raiders, we caught up with Farrell to gather his emotions following him achieving his remarkable milestone last weekend.

“100 games for one club is pretty special for me”, said Farrell. “I enjoy being at the club with such a great group of boys, and I’ve made some really good friends with some of the lads who have also been here previously.

“The staff have also been class with me since I’ve been here and they’ve made it a great place to play rugby, so I couldn’t have asked for a more memorable game to reach 100 games than last weekend’s game at Halifax.

“The start of the season has been class, we worked hard in the off-season, and we set out our goals for the year.

“We started slow with our attack, but from day one our defence has been outstanding and that’s what wins games at the end of the day.”

Reflecting on last weekend’s win in West Yorkshire, Farrell evaluated the game and established how key our defence became in that game, but he knows this weekend’s game against Barrow will pose a different threat.

“We worked hard last weekend and grinded it out, there was times where we could have broken, but with the way we were playing, I didn’t feel like we was going to concede at any point in the game.

“Training has been good this week, the boys are focused, and we know that we have a job to do. It doesn’t matter who we are playing, we will make sure we try and do all the right things to win, we have a very professional group here and we will be ready to get another two points this weekend.”

After spending the last five weeks away from home, we finally return home this weekend to Sheffield and it’s something which Joel is looking forward to as we look to secure a sixth-successive victory in the 2024 Betfred Championship.

“I can’t wait to be playing back at the OLP this weekend, I’ve only played one half of rugby there all year so far, so I can’t wait to hear the fans singing in the Steel City and hopefully we can carry on our unbeaten start in the league.”
