Holmes Arrives on Loan

Sheffield Eagles are delighted to announce the signing of Tom Holmes on an initial two-week loan deal from Featherstone Rovers.
Holmes has signed for the club ahead of this weekend’s Championship fixture against Whitehaven and is available for selection for Sunday’s trip to Cumbria.
The 26-year-old came through the system at his hometown club Castleford Tigers and has also represented Huddersfield Giants in Super League.
The versatile half-back signed for Featherstone on loan in 2019 before he rejoined Rovers permanently in 2021, a season in which the Rovers lost out to Toulouse Olympique in the Million Pound Game.
Eagles Director of Rugby, Mark Aston is pleased to welcome Holmes into his squad.
“I'm delighted to add a player of Tom's quality to the squad”, said Aston.
Aston added: "He will certainly add something positive to this group."
Holmes explained his reasoning behind making the move, shortly after it was confirmed.
“It’s important for me to build as much game time as possible, it’s a very competitive environment at Featherstone and so I’m excited for the opportunity to showcase my abilities.”
“A handful of clubs came in pretty quickly for me and when I heard that Sheffield were interested it was something that I wanted to get over-the-line pretty quickly.”
“Going out on loan is a big thing for me and Sheffield ticked a lot of the boxes around where I want to be.
“It’s a club that looks like it’s going places.
“I want to be in a team that is pushing for playoffs, I want to be playing and performing and for me, there’s no better way than to be the best version of me in a team that is really competitive, added Holmes.
“I want to look back and see that I have played a part in pushing Sheffield in the best way that I can, hopefully, I can help the club and they can help me.”
Tom is sponsored by Caistor Lakes and will wear shirt number 28 for the Eagles.
