George Griffin joins Sheffield Eagles

Sheffield Eagles are pleased to announce the signing of forward George Griffin on a two-year deal from Castleford Tigers.

The vastly experienced forward joins the Eagles with over 230 Betfred Super League appearances to his name and will link up with head coach Craig Lingard for a second time, having previously played under him at the Tigers in 2024.

The 33-year-old began his career with Hull Kingston Rovers, making his Super League debut in 2012 in a victory against Widnes Vikings. He gained further experience with spells at Gateshead Thunder, London Broncos and Wakefield Trinity, before he joined Salford Red Devils in 2015.

During five seasons at Salford, Griffin became a key figure in the side, making 114 appearances and helped the club reach the 2019 Betfred Super League Grand Final, where he featured in the historic Old Trafford fixture.

He moved to Castleford ahead of the 2020 season and went on to make 110 appearances for the club across six campaigns. Griffin was part of the Tigers side that reached the 2021 Challenge Cup Final, where they were beaten by St Helens at Wembley Stadium.

Now joining the Eagles, Griffin brings a wealth of top-flight experience and a strong reputation for his hard work and leadership, and he becomes our fifth new addition for 2026 following the arrivals of Joe Brown, Harry Bowes, Conor Fitzsimmons and Josh Hodson.

Speaking on signing for the club, Griffin said, "I'm estatic to sign for the club, I've been talking to Linners (Craig Lingard) for a couple of months now and this move just seems to make sense for me. I've worked with him before at Castleford, I like the way he operates as a coach and his approach to training and coaching, and I'm really looking forward to working with him again."

Craig Lingard added, "I'm really pleased to be able to get Griff in for the next two seasons, he's a massively experienced individual and got a really good pedigree. He's one of the best defensive and technical players that I've previously worked with, and I've developed a really good working relationship with him. I think he'll be a leader for us on-and-off the field and hopefully he can help bring on some of our younger players, but hopefully he can help develop some more of our senior players too."
