Eagles Women Set For Launch Night
07/01/2022
The Sheffield Eagles women’s team will be formally launched on Monday 10th January, with all interested players and volunteers invited to attend the event which takes place at the Hillsborough Club starting 7pm.
England Women’s Rugby League star and recently appointed RFL National Women’s RL Development Manager Jodie Cunningham will be in attendance to share her experiences of playing Rugby League and to support the launch of the team.
“Women’s Rugby League has grown from strength to strength in recent years and it is fantastic to see this growth expanding to include the famous Sheffield Eagles name” said Cunningham. “2022 provides a brilliant opportunity to capitalise on the excitement of the Rugby League World Cup and inspire women and girls in Sheffield to get involved in the sport and I’m delighted to be there at the start of this exciting venture!”
Driven by the Eagles Foundation, the women’s team will compete in the RFL Women’s Rugby League structure in 2022 and training will start on Friday 14th January, 7.30pm to 8.30pm at Sheffield College, Livesey Street, S6 2ET.
“We’re very excited to be launching the Sheffield Eagles women’s team” explained Andrea Dobson, who herself is one of the country’s most decorated players. “There has been on and off Women’s Rugby League activity in Sheffield for over 20 years and we aim to build on that platform and give women in the city and across South Yorkshire and the North Midlands the opportunity to play Rugby League at the highest level and to be able to do so representing the Sheffield Eagles name.”
The Hillsborough Club is at 27 Bradfield Road, Sheffield, S6 2BS – anyone interested in being part of the new team should contact Andrea Dobson, Eagles Foundation Development Officer via andrea.dobson@eaglesfoundation.co.uk or 07960 135 699.
